    Conditions Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Treats

Pelvic health physiotherapy, also known as pelvic floor physiotherapy, is a specialized area of physiotherapy that focuses on the assessment and treatment of conditions related to the pelvic floor muscles, which support the pelvic organs, including the bladder, uterus, and rectum.

The pelvic floor consists of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that play a crucial role in supporting the pelvic organs, controlling bowel and bladder function, sexual function, and stability of the spine and pelvis.

Pelvic health physiotherapists are trained to assess and address various conditions that affect the pelvic floor, such as:

    • Incontinence: This includes urinary incontinence (leaking urine) and fecal incontinence (involuntary bowel movements).
    • Pelvic organ prolapse: When one or more pelvic organs, such as the bladder, uterus, or rectum, descend into the vaginal space.
    • Pelvic pain: Chronic pelvic pain can occur in both men and women and may have various causes, including muscular issues in the pelvic floor.
    • Pre- and post-natal care: Pelvic floor physiotherapy can help with preparation for childbirth, as well as postpartum recovery, addressing issues like pelvic floor weakness or pain.
    • Sexual dysfunction: Problems related to sexual function, such as pain during intercourse or difficulty achieving orgasm, can be addressed through pelvic health physiotherapy.

Pelvic Health Physical Therapy Treatment Methods

Treatment typically involves a combination of techniques, including pelvic floor exercises (Kegels), manual therapy, biofeedback, education on bladder and bowel habits, and lifestyle modifications. The goal is to improve muscle strength, coordination, and function while addressing specific issues related to the pelvic floor.

Pelvic health physiotherapy can significantly improve quality of life for individuals experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction and is often recommended as a first-line treatment before considering surgical interventions or medications. It’s important to consult with a qualified pelvic health physiotherapist for an individualized assessment and treatment plan tailored to specific needs.

My father is in a long term care facility, and we were finding the time allotted by the facility was not enough, nor focused enough to be effective in our opinion. I saw an InHome Physical Therapy vehicle in the parking lot one day, and made an inquiry. They got back to me that same day, and booked an initial appointment to assess my father and his needs. Troy was early for his appointment, was very professional, and was able to come up with a focused plan for extra therapy that gave my father some hope, and a renewed focus on improving his abilities. Am extremely impressed with this program.

I booked InHome physio for my > 90-year-old mother twice. One time when she hurt her knee in a freak accident, and just recently, after a partial hip replacement. Both physiotherapists. (Mike the first time and Brennan now) have been absolutely awesome. My Mom really likes them and they are keen on getting her independent and so are fully engaged even though she is elderly. So often, people don't put their best effort into supporting the elderly, but these gentlemen are very dedicated to their patients regardless of their age. Mom says thank you!

This was the first time I had a massage prior to my back surgeries in 2023. It is difficult to find a therapist who will come to the house. Getting out for appts is difficult. I waited awhile for a massage spot to open, but it was worth the wait! My body was sore and having spasms constantly. My massage helped so much with the knots in my legs. The hour went by too fast. I am looking forward to my next massage. Very experienced therapist!!
