Advantages of Exercise Therapy

Exercise therapy promotes long-term health by preventing future injuries and managing symptoms of various conditions. Before transitioning to an exercise therapist (kinesiologist), a physiotherapist will assess your needs to ensure the most effective treatment plan moving forward.

KNOWLEDGE OF HUMAN MOVEMENT

Exercise therapists have a deep understanding of human movement and biomechanics. With their knowledge of how the body moves and functions, they are able to assess movement patterns, identify abnormalities, and develop personalized plans to improve mobility, strength, and flexibility.

One of the primary roles of an exercise therapist is to prevent injuries and aid in rehabilitation. They can design specific exercise programs tailored to your needs, whether you’re recovering from surgery, dealing with chronic pain, or rehabilitating from a sports injury. By focusing on proper movement mechanics and strengthening weakened areas, exercise therapists help reduce the risk of future injuries.

Unlike generic fitness routines, exercise therapists develop personalized exercise programs based on individual assessments. They consider your medical history, current fitness level, and specific goals to create a plan that maximizes effectiveness while minimizing the risk of overexertion or injury.

Athletes often turn to exercise therapists to enhance their performance. Exercise therapists can analyze movement efficiency, optimize training regimens, and provide guidance on proper techniques. Whether you’re training for a marathon, improving your golf swing, or aiming for peak performance in any sport, an exercise therapist can fine-tune your training to help you reach your athletic goals.

Exercise therapists play a significant role in managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, and cardiovascular conditions. Through targeted exercise and lifestyle modifications, they can help improve cardiovascular health, manage symptoms, and enhance overall quality of life.

Exercise therapists often take a holistic approach to health, considering not just physical fitness but also factors such as nutrition, stress management, and mental well-being. They provide comprehensive guidance to promote overall health and wellness, addressing the interconnected aspects of a person’s lifestyle.

Working with an exercise therapist provides motivation and accountability. They serve as coaches and mentors, supporting you through your fitness journey, celebrating successes, and adjusting plans as needed to keep you on track towards your goals.

Why Exercise Therapy?

Transitioning care to an exercise therapist (also known as a kinesiologist) from a physiotherapist can offer several benefits, particularly as a person progresses through their rehabilitation journey. While physiotherapists focus on diagnosing and treating injuries, kinesiologists specialize in creating exercise-based rehabilitation programs that target strength, mobility, and overall functional improvement. This makes them especially beneficial for patients who are ready to move beyond the acute phase of recovery and adopt a more active, long-term approach to health and wellness.

In addition to rehabilitation, kinesiologists can assist with preventative care by improving movement patterns and building muscle strength to reduce the risk of future injuries. They can design personalized exercise plans to meet specific goals, such as enhancing performance, increasing endurance, or managing chronic conditions. However, it’s important to note that treatment by a kinesiologist is generally not covered under most health insurance plans in Canada, unlike physiotherapy services. Despite this, many individuals find the long-term benefits of kinesiology treatment to be well worth the investment in their overall health and recovery.

If you’re considering whether an exercise therapist could be a good fit for your recovery or wellness goals, please contact InHome Physical Therapy today! We can help you determine if exercise therapy is the right choice for your needs and guide you through the next steps.

I am glad that I have found Cindy, the physiotherapist by luck to treat my dad's chronic lower back pain. She is very professional and wonderful. She is very patient with older folks like my dad who is 95. I saw a big improvement in my dad's mobility and strengthening of muscles from the exercises within 5 weeks of treatment. Thank you Cindy.

My father is in a long term care facility, and we were finding the time allotted by the facility was not enough, nor focused enough to be effective in our opinion. I saw an InHome Physical Therapy vehicle in the parking lot one day, and made an inquiry. They got back to me that same day, and booked an initial appointment to assess my father and his needs. Troy was early for his appointment, was very professional, and was able to come up with a focused plan for extra therapy that gave my father some hope, and a renewed focus on improving his abilities. Am extremely impressed with this program.

I booked InHome physio for my > 90-year-old mother twice. One time when she hurt her knee in a freak accident, and just recently, after a partial hip replacement. Both physiotherapists. (Mike the first time and Brennan now) have been absolutely awesome. My Mom really likes them and they are keen on getting her independent and so are fully engaged even though she is elderly. So often, people don't put their best effort into supporting the elderly, but these gentlemen are very dedicated to their patients regardless of their age. Mom says thank you!
